Research Program 4 (RP4) Leader – Mitigating the Risk of Microplastics in Agricultural Soils

Distinguished Professor Andy Ball

Andy is a Distinguished Professor in the School of Science at RMIT University and the Director of the ARC Training Centre for the Transformation of Australia’s Biosolids Resource.

Andy has more than 40 years of research experience in environmental microbiology. In 2012, he was appointed Professor of Environmental Biotechnology at RMIT University; in 2016 he was appointed Distinguished Professor. In 2020 Andy became Director of the Australian Research Councils Industrial Transformation Training Centre for the Transformation of Australia’s Biosolids Resource, based at RMIT. Previously, in 2005 Andy was appointed Foundation Chair of Environmental Biotechnology at Flinders University and Director of Flinders Bioremediation. He has a wealth of research and teaching experience in the fields of bioremediation, environmental contamination and environmental microbiology.
